How Timber Harvesting PA Is Done

By Sharon Moore

Eighty percent of home and office furniture is made of wood products. However, before these products can make an admirable item, they have undergone several processes right from tree felling, yarding, bucking, and hauling. To get the best products you need a team of skilled professionals, well-maintained felling machines, trucks, and a farm or forest where raw materials can be extracted. With all this you can now start venturing into the timber harvesting PA business. In this abstract, you will learn on how timber is harvested.

Timber harvesting starts with acquisition of a harvesting permit, tree felling, bucking, yarding, hauling, and processing which is finally done at the factory. To do this, experienced felling and bucking experts must be employed to ensure that there are no damages or injuries that take place. Lifting machines, hoes, moving trucks, and updated processing machines must be acquired prior to the business start.

Proper tree felling is a skill that is not experienced in everybody. It needs good judgment, common sense, right equipment and knowledge. This process sets the harvesting operation stage and it should be done carefully. Trees should be fell on open grounds, away from fish streams, water courses, boundary lines and roads. Therefore, whoever is felling them must be skilled on how their falling direction can be controlled.

After felling the trees, they cannot be hauled on the trucks immediately. Removal of unwanted branches, defects and other parts should be done. Also, the logs should be backed using the provided measurement so as to meet the ordered sizes. Anything less will make the company lose significant amount because short measurements highly interfere with the tree value. Get skilled people who can read and make informed calculations when interpreting measurements.

Once the logs are ready and have been bucked at the right size, it is time to transport them to the yard. This is where your factory process the logs and it might be situated anywhere depending on what the company wants. Find cranes that will lift the logs from the ground to the trucks for ease of transport. Moreover, cases where hundreds of people are injured when manually lifting the logs will not be encountered. Ensure you have trucks that can maneuver on the forest roads without skidding and getting stuck.

The logs are ready for transportation from the yard to the factory once they are bucked. To lift these logs from the ground to the trucks is an expensive process and a dangerous one when it is done manually. Lifting cranes or hoeing machines should be obtained where an expert will be picking the logs and dropping them on the trailer. As such, no employee or passerby will be injured.

Transporting the logs from their yard in the forest to the company where timber is processed is difficult. You need trucks that can withstand movement in muddy and rough roads. If the distance from the forest to the factory is close, consider hiring vehicles than purchasing yours. As such, you will use the capital in buying more raw materials.

No matter how beautiful and big the logs are, you cannot enjoy their end products if you are using outdated machines. Invest in machines that perform automatically and require minimum labor when operating. As such, you will meet customer demand and offer beautiful timber pieces.
