The shortcoming of this wood framing is that the process usually involves cutting, measuring, fitting, as well as nailing every stick which is time-consuming. On the other hand, wood framing is hard to effectively seal and insulate, and air infiltration result in condensation and moisture problems. SIPs however offer fabrication benefits instead. This is since they are normally made in a different location before they are transported to the site. The strength and stability of wood framing and that of structural insulated panels usually varies. The wood frames often exceeds the strength requirements although wood framing members twists and wrap overtime as the moisture levels vary. However, the structural features of SIPs are usually similar to those of steel I-Beam. As a result, they can be engineered for many applications.

Also, vapor and air barriers are usually not required for SIPs. This is because well-sealed structural insulated panels usually create a compliant air barrier. Also, the foam core is normally continuous and solid throughout which eliminates convection and condensation issues.
