Steps In Becoming Certified Backflow Tester

By Harold Carter

Michigan has made it a requirement for professionals to pass certifications for the protection and benefit of public health. Under Rule 1405, it states the qualifications for backflow preventers, testing, and corrections. It is mandated to be certified backflow tester Michigan by the Department of EGLE in accordance with ASSE Standard 5110.

Certifications are under the supervision of American Society of Safety Engineers made to ensure that companies and individuals know the systems for mechanical and plumbing areas. These systems promote improvements, safety, and performance for public awareness. Professionals are certified under this third party organization for areas such as rainwater harvest, backflow prevention, and infection control.

To qualify for their backflow prevention certification, professionals are required to have at least five years of experience in working with it. This is because they will undergo forty hours of training courses before they do the written and oral exams. Their proficiency in knowledge and skills operations will be tested during the exams. Their proctors are professionals approved by ASSE.

Tasks in relation to controlling cross connection are only trusted to qualified professionals in assembling of backflow prevention. Here, two or more separate systems are connected by physical means. It involves in situations such as connecting the systems of water containments together. This is one of those reasons why Michigan have great trust in ASSE recognized professionals.

For exams, there are differences when taking it for the first time and recertification. For the former, the written exam consists of one hundred questions. In the practical exam, they must demonstrate the field testing successfully. The procedures that will be demonstrated are assembly of pressure and spill resistant vacuum breaker, double check valve, and pressure principle.

On the other hand, they are similar in the practical exams. In this section, they need to do demonstrations involving field testing. They must successfully assemble vacuum breakers that are can hold pressure and resistant to spills. Also, they must assemble double check valve and pressure principle.

Do remember that the certification aims to protect the supply of water by increasing qualified professionals. They created a program wherein individuals can overcome challenges to get credentials from standards. Surveying, repairing, and assembling are the enhanced skills they can gain. In effect, service companies will see their credibility and employability.

Enrolling in ASSE training courses is possible through applying at their approved schools. Michigan currently has fourteen schools accepting students for Standard 5110 certification of ASSE. They can enter schools that are closest to their residence via their website. However, it is required to pass the application two weeks before it starts in order to have the source materials prepared appropriately.

In the end, it is the state of Michigan and all of its water supplies that benefits from this. This industry is highly regulated both by governing bodies like the governments and ASSE. Professionals can also benefit from the profits they can get from this either by being an independent tester or consultant for companies. Customers can easily find them after all in this age of information technology.
